Equine Herpesvirus Update

"According to the statement released by the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) things appear to have settled down and we should be able to get back to our usual routine with our horses. The one thing we all should learn from this is the concept of "biosecurity." Anytime we mix horses at an event we risk transmission of infectious diseases - and have commonly seen things like influenza, Strangles, and even respiratory herpes viral infection. Going forward, the points outlined in the TAHC are good practical things to follow as a matter of routine to reduce the risk of infectious disease. Now that we are seeing the Texas heat, lets get back to business." ~ Dr. Fairfield Bain, Chief of Medicine, ESMS
